Geographical Location

FATA is situated between the latitudes of 31° and 35° North, and the longitudes of 69° 15′ and 71° 50′ East, stretching for maximum length of approximately 450 kilometers and spanning more than 250 kilometers at its widest point (Survey of Pakistan, 1984). It lies along with Pak-Afghan border called Durand Line.

FATA touches Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the east and Baluchistan province in the south. In geographical order, the Bajaur Agency shares border with Kunar Province of Afghanistan, Mohmand Agency with Kunar and Ningarhar, Kurram Agency with Ningarhar, Paktia and Khost, North Waziristan with Khost and Paktika and South Waziristan borders Paktika province of Afghanistan. Orakzai is the only Agency which doesn’t share any border with Afghanistan. Tribal agencies are also bordering to six Frontier Regions (FR Peshawar, FR Kohat, FR Bannu, FR Lakki Marwat, FR Tank and FR Dera Ismail), which lie in a north to south strip.
